ידוע המבואר בכ"מ בדא"ח הטעם שנקרא ראש השנה ולא תחלת השנה - כי יום זה לגבי שאר ימות השנה הוא כמו ראש לגבי גוף ואברים. כמו שהראש - חיות כל האברים כלול בו, וגם אח"כ בגילוי, הרי מן הראש נמשך חיות לכל אבר בפרט, כך יום ראש השנה כולל בתוכו חיות כל ימי השנה, שכולם כלולים בו בהעלם, ואח"כ מתחלק בגילוי לימים פרטיים.
It is well known, as explained in many places in Chassidus, why this day is called Rosh Hashanah, the head of the year, and not techilas hashanah, the beginning of the year: because this day, relative to the other days of the year, is like the head relative to the body and its limbs. Just as the head contains within it the vitality of all the limbs, and afterward, in a revealed way, vitality is drawn from the head to each limb individually, so too the day of Rosh Hashanah contains within it the vitality of all the days of the year, all of them are included in it in a concealed state, and afterward it is divided, in a revealed way, into the individual days.
